71 Engineer Regiment - Annual Training Event

Annual Training Event (ATE) 05-20 Sep 14.

This year’s ATE is focussed on helping Scottish community and charity based construction tasks across Scotlandwith some self help military work.  The Regiment will be based in the historic Cameron Barracks Inverness.  We will be constructing 5 major projects.  A permanent footbridge with associated track and culvert upgrades near Loch Ness for the World Orienteering Championships of 2015.  A substantial elevated visitor walkway, viewing platform and new polar bear pond at the Kingussie HighlandWildlife Park.  Refurbishing the Outdoor Adventure Training Lodge at Rothiemurcus in the Cairngorms.  Constructing two carparks at Gareloch Head Training Camp and converting the main garage atBarnsford Bridge into an indoor Artisan Training Facility.  We will also be hosting 50 US National Guardsmen from South Dakota in the USA.  On top of all this there will be opportunities for Adventurous Training, at least two social events and an inter squadron sports day!  Two weeks of full pay training, development and excitement.  Remember the ATE is the major part of your Annual Bounty Qualification.  You must complete two solid weeks of ATE training.  If you have not attended Ex GOLDEN COYOTE or conducted a two week course this training year then you must attend ATE in order to be Bounty Qualified.  It is not too late to apply for attendance.  Speak to your Troop Commander, QMSI or PSAO and get your name down.  Remember to inform your employer and PARTNER!  If you have already undertaken a 2 week course/exercise you can still attend this as well.

Hopefully this will be a sunny two week deployment making a valuable contribution to our natural heritage, world sporting event and our own regimental training facilities.  Sign on for ATE 14 NOW.

Army Reserves Challenge Champions 2014

Congratulations to the team. A hard fought but well deserved 4-1 victory after extra time. York UOTC equalised just before full time to force the extra 30 mins.

"We're on our way to...Aldershot"

Future champions?

"We're on our way to...Aldershot"

Not long until the 71 Engineer Regiment football team take on Yorkshire UOTC in the final of the Army Reserve Cup Final. Whilst the team (quite rightly) flew down and got a good night's sleep the travelling supporters had to endure the 9 hour coach trip from Cumbernauld - only made better by the 0100 departure. Still, expectations are high having beaten the reigning champs in the quarter finals.

Good luck to the team.

Rapid Progress in the First Quarter of 2014

The Regiment is fully into reorganisation and rebasing mode. It has shrunk the operation in Elgin and now expands to take on a Squadron in Ireland. The pace of development to improve opportunities for trades persons, plant operators, combat engineers and logistical specialists goes on. Enduring supporting staff such as clerks, chefs, drivers and trained store mangers are always in short supply. The message here is that Army Reserve service in the Royal Engineers has a wide a diverse skills base with commensurate management responsibility through the promotion system. The Regiment is seeing greater opportunities for its members to take part in integrated training worldwide, this positive and focused role will deliver back to industry real benefit at every level. Leadership, management tools, interpersonal relationships and individual confidence are the cornerstone of what Army Reserve engenders in its members.

Preparing For The Future

71 Engineer Regiment is part of the future Army both in Scotland and wider as it changes shape to better reflect a new and exciting operational role. The unit will change shape in Scotland and lose a presence in Elgin, but the good news is an enduring footprint in Paisley, Cumbernauld, Leuchars and Kirkwall in the Orkney; with a new opportunity in Kinloss alongside regular soldiers.
This revised shape and capability offers a huge chance for energetic team players who have skills in construction, plant operating, trade skills, catering, clerical support or driving along with others who may enjoy managing staff, logistics and stores.
